What is Casino and Rueda de Casino?

Casino is Cuba's original social partner dance, known internationally as Cuban Salsa.

Developed in Havana during the 1950s, Casino combines rhythm, musicality, communication and playful interaction between dance partners. Deeply connected to Cuban music and culture, it remains one of the island's most loved and widely danced social dances.

Rueda de Casino evolved from Casino and is danced in a circle, with couples performing coordinated movements while responding to calls from a leader. The constant partner changes, teamwork and shared energy create a unique and exciting social experience.

This special MiCUBA! edition explores both Casino and Rueda de Casino, helping participants understand not only the steps and techniques but also the culture, musicality and social traditions behind them.

More than a dance, Casino represents connection, community, joy and the social spirit of Cuba.

Whether you are taking your first steps or looking to develop your confidence and understanding of authentic Cuban social dancing, this immersive afternoon and evening will guide you through the rhythms, techniques and cultural foundations that make Casino such a unique experience.

Recognised internationally for her commitment to preserving and promoting authentic Cuban culture, Damarys has spent decades creating opportunities for cultural exchange through dance, music, education and community engagement.

Through MiCUBA!, she continues to connect people with the richness, diversity and heritage of Cuba.

Anier Jova

UK-Cuban dancer, teacher and performer specialising in Casino, Rueda de Casino and Cuban social dance traditions.

Known for his dynamic energy and authentic Cuban style, Anier is passionate about helping dancers develop confidence, musicality and genuine social dancing skills.

His teaching combines strong technical foundations with the joy, spontaneity and connection that define authentic Cuban dance culture.

Randy Lester

Master percussionist from Santiago de Cuba, bringing powerful Afro-Caribbean rhythms and deep musical heritage to the MiCUBA! Experience.

Through live percussion and musical demonstrations, Randy helps participants understand the unique relationship between rhythm, music and movement within Cuban culture.

Together, Damarys, Anier and Randy offer an engaging, educational and inspiring experience suitable for all levels.
