DAMARYS FARRES
Havana, Cuba Damarys Farrés is the Director and sole founder of D'CubanSchool, and the creator of GODDESS-Connect with your inner-self initiative. It has been said that 'Damarys is a unique dancer, who captures the soul and spirit of Cuba in her dancing'; and that 'Damarys affects everybody with her vital energy, passion and happiness!' Damarys is a knowledgable passionate dancer, choreographer, teacher and researcher of the Cuban and Afro-Cuban culture dance forms and rhythms. These include Salsa, Son, Rumba, Yoruba, Bantu, Arara, Reggaeton among other genres. Damarys is highly acclaimed in UK as well as worldwide for her charisma and her infectious energy. She is renowned for her knowledge and passion for the Cuban and Afro-Cuban culture, dance forms, her femininity and powerful positive energy. She has a unique dancing style, choreography, artistic direction and teaching, which owes much to her broad background in dance. This includes classical ballet, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, Reggaeton , traditional and popular Cuban styles, folk dances, as well as other Latin, modern and Afro-Cuban dances. She was the first female Cuban artist to provide structured Cuban dance rhythm courses in the UK. She was the first solo Cuban Artist to organise independent Cuban cultural events involving Cuban artists in the UK, hence our slogans “110% Cubano” - “110% Genuine Cuban!” Her passion for her culture and Cuban dance, especially traditional and Afro-Cuban dance, are her main motive for founding The Cuba School of Arts - The Home of Cuban Arts in the UK. |
DESPINA BARDOSI Greece Despina (MSc in Forensic Psychology) is a fully trained teacher and supported by the Mindfulness Association UK, fully immersed in her own regular meditation practice, and receives regular supervision. She teaches mindfulness to everyone: from professionals at their workplace, performance artists, ex-offenders, and the general public adapting the practice to the individual’s needs and ability. Despina has been working in mental health for over 10 years and has been using Mindfulness and Self-Compassion techniques within her private sessions with individuals and witnesses the great impact it had on their lives, by achieving optimal health and high levels of well-being. |
DAYAMI BARRIENTOS
Cuba Qualified Healer and Medium Originally from Cuba, but living in the UK for the past 30 years. Is a Holistic Healer, Reader and Teacher. As well as having a passion for crystals and their uses, Dayami is equally passionate about other spiritual practices like Meditation, Qi Gong, Healing, Vegetarism /Vegan food, etc..She is a qualified Healer and Medium and runs development circles. Her interest for the world of crystals and all of the above practices started 20 years ago. One day she bought a magazine that had an article talking about different crystals and their benefits. After that she started studying as much as she could about crystals and buying them for her own personal use or sometimes she used them in her healing sessions, depending if the person needs a specific crystal to align and balance a Chakra in their body, which is an energy centre in the body. Dayami says: " aim always to help others so they can help themselves by sharing her knowledge and experience about different practices and tools available out there that one can be use in our everyday life for our general well being, to keep and restore a balance between the mind, body and soul. After all we must remember we are spiritual beings living a human experience" |
CECILIA AMADOR
Ecuador Cecilia is an Ecuadorian Entrepreneur that discovered the daily use of medicinal plants for skin care in her culture and used it in her lifestyle. For many years, Cecilia was unhappy with the creams offered by the beauty industry which were full of chemicals. In February 2019, Cecilia attended a Women Entrepreneurs event where she found her desire and passion. She studied natural cosmetology to create organic skin care products, after obtaining her qualification Cecilia launched SC beauty by nature as a business entrepreneur. Cecilia says : "We want to show people just how natural products can help. By trusting in the world that God created, we have been able to provide a skincare product which is incredibly natural and delivers results. That’s what motivates us. The results. We want to be able to come up with products that are using the ingredients in nature. Because it’s so important to us that everything we do is natural, you’ll never find anything artificial in our products. We don’t want to be like the rest of the beauty industry, because we have something unique to offer. " |
IRIS DE BRITO Angola Iris De Brito is a professional dance artist since 1995. She has worked in professional theatre dance companies, TV and touring the Afro-Latin festival circuit. Highlights include producing El Barrio - a Salsa Musical, 2X UK Salsa Champion; One Dance UK trailblazer fellowships and producing a documentary, being creative artistic director and programmer of BATUKE! Festival in the UK and receiving Arts Council funding. Iris focus is on promoting African dance technique and the holistic nature of movement in dance. Iris currently works between the UK and Portugal establishing cultural links. |
ANGELICA MARION
Jamaica Angelica Marion has always been inspired by films, so when she was around the age of 15/16 She came across an array of many dance film that sparked her interest in dance. One particular film caught her eye, “ You got severed” She watched that film about 100 time. Downloaded the song from the film and played it back again and again trying to pick up the choreography. She searched the internet for places that dancers would go so she could immerse her-self in the world of hip pop culture, in the hopes that she could become a great dancer and as luck would have it she did. " I made friends who are amazing dancers and by watching them I learnt so much ‘popping, top rocks, house and whacking. I watched Dirty dancing and was inspired to learn salsa which took me six months to master. After spending hours watching peoples feet I gain confidence I finally had the courage asked people to dance, it took a while for them to warm towards to me but I haven’t looked back since" Since then Angelica has done a couple of music videos : - Singing and dancing in Michael Jackson tribute play in Spain , The play one night in house of casa Blanca in Whales, A Featured dancer in Cuban furry, Currently training at AMTA studying musical theatre and teaching bachata. |
TANIA MENDONCA
Benguela, Angola As most Angolans she has danced Kizomba with family and friends most of her life. However, in 2010 and then a resident in the United Kingdom she started to share her knowledge and teach Kizomba outside the PALOP community. As an Angolan, Kizomba is more than a dance, it is her culture. Founder of Kizomba Reading, co-founder of Kizomba4Life charity and HBT events, Tania always took on the responsibility of spreading her culture not only by teaching the dance but also redirecting the focus to the music and artists, for the music and lyrics are some of the most important components of the Kizomba movement. On her most recent project "About Kizomba", Tania shares the ins and outs of the history and its importance through the struggles of the Angolan people during the civil war and mass immigration of the PALOP communities to Portugal. Twice nominated for best Kizomba teacher by The UK Lucas Awards, Tania is an highly reputable Instructor that is sought after to teach Internationally at various Congresses and Festivals, while focusing in sharing her knowledge of Kizomba in its most original form. |
SONNY VARELA
aka Miss Ginga Boo | UK, France I was born & grew up in France but originally from Cape Verde (I am Palop) and have been living in London since 2000. Whilst growing up dance was a common theme running throughout my family and culture. Grew up dancing Passada, Funana, Batuku, Coladeira, Zouk, Kuduro, Mazurka, Coupe Decale and Ndombolo. In the UK danced Samba with Taste of Brazil, and African traditional and modern dance (Azonto & Afrobeat) with Yemaya Libota. Throughout my years of working in the dance sector, I have accumulated a lot of experience and accomplished a great deal as a dancer, promoter and innovator namely; Sonny was recently crown the Contribution of the year 2019 by "UK Kizomba Awards 2019" Teaching Kizomba since 2010 in 2015 coming 1st place as UK Kizomba Champions and in 2015 3rd place as International championship World Kizomba Champions. AfricaADancar Teaching / Performing Kizomba around the world and UK with a dance partner then later becoming a solo female teacher. Throughout the year (weekly in London) I have been dancing and teaching Kizomba and added Urban Kiz in the last 3 years (around UK too) 2016 Started my own event business company Ginga Boo UK with the aim of using our local talent as well as international teachers & DJs to support the dance growth in the UK as well providing fun parties with a festival feeling. In June 2019 2019 Hosted my first 'UK Open 2019' dance competition Kizomba & Urban Kiz creating opportunities for new talents wanting to expose their work and wishing to enter the dance scene sector I’m also the creator of the Ginga Boo Chain aimed at enhancing your body movement and give you a touch of “Je ne sais quoi “ My vision and ethos remains to be passionate about what I do, to teach, to promote, to be an innovator and to support the growth of Kizomba in the UK. I am passionate about Kizomba, I am passionate about my culture, myself but also have brought many top Kizomba international & UK artists to my events providing quality workshop & music therefore contributing to Kizomba growth in UK, and I still enjoy, appreciate, like, and promote other dances related to Kizomba umbrella. #FREEDOM #DANCE #ART |
